photo: stock.xchngThe valley of the Douro river is the source of the profitable port industry. Douro meanders 850km from it's source in Spain to it's mouth in Porto. Once a turbulent river of rapids and rarrow ravines, it has been tamed considerably by the construction of eight dams.
